It is here where I met Mayo, a young red wolf who was born at the center on May 5, 2009. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eShe was later moved to another center that was also participating in the Red Wolf Recovery Program, where she raised 6 puppies in 2014. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eShe sadly passed away in her sleep on July 31st, 2024. To add texture I used two mediums: modeling paste and glass beads. I used the modeling paste to add some 'bubble texture' which I then painted in silver oil paint (see photo number 5). I then used glass beads to add some luminescence. When the light hits the bead at an angle, it is reflected and it looks like shoals of fish. Gannets feed mainly in shoals of fish like sardines and anchovies.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eTo add more light to this painting I glazed it twice. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen I painted this piece I was inspired by a gannet colony we visited years ago. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLambert's Bay in South Africa is the only accessible spot in the world where you can see Cape Gannets breed. Thousands of birds gather here to breed (see 5th pic for a view of the colony). It is an incredible sight!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI have very fond memories from our trip there a few years ago, when we did our 7-month overloading trip across Southern Africa. Lambert's Bay is 170 miles from Cape Town. We met this elk bull one evening during one of our visits.
