African wild dogs have had a prominent role in my life.

As an undergraduate, I did my dissertation in African wild dog behavior, and specialized in scent marking. Basically I just watched them pee.

Fifteen years ago I studied them in Zululand, South Africa. I was one of the very few people lucky enough to see this family raise their pups. What a privilege! From the day when mom went into her den to give birth, to the first day the pups were old enough to come out and when they were old enough to start exploring. The last photo on the carrousel is one of the great moments I witnessed.

I never saw them grow up, as I went traveling when they were about 2 or 3 months old, but I have all these sweet memories of little fluff balls with huge round bellies running around.

And now I can put on canvas how I see them.
