There are less than 100 red wolves in the wild in eastern North Carolina.

A few years ago I volunteered at the WNC Nature Center in Asheville helping with the predators curator. It is here where I met Mayo, a young red wolf who was born at the center on May 5, 2009.

She was later moved to another center that was also participating in the Red Wolf Recovery Program, where she raised 6 puppies in 2014.

She sadly passed away in her sleep on July 31st, 2024. She was 15 and the 2nd oldest living red wolf in the world at the time.

This red wolf painting shows her as a young two-year-old and is based on a photo my husband took of her (see it on photo carrousel).

Fine art prints will be available the third week of August.
